In the early hours of yesterday morning, my beautiful mare Jewel was cruelly taken from me. She died of acorn poisoning. She was in so much pain and was suffering from kidney failure and internal hemorrhaging, so I tragically had to have her put to sleep It doesn't seem real, it was like I was having a nightmare and I just wanted to wake up I just can't get my head around the fact that she has gone, I'd got so much planned for us, I was going to take her dressaging over the winter and I was just getting my confidence at jumping again it's just not fair! I just wanted to warn people about the effects of acorn poisoning, as I didn't (and not many people I've spoke to did), know just how fatal they can be. They affect individual horses differently, some horses are more sensitive to them than others. Jewel developed an extreme taste for them and sadly she must have been very sensitive to them So please if you have oak trees in your fields they must be fenced off, our yard is surrounded by them so they are all being fenced off, I would hate for another horse and owner to go through what me and Jewel have gone through Our first ever show Sleep tight my princess, run pain free in Rainbow Bridge xx

Oh Cara, I'm so, so sorry What a dreadful shock, and a reminder to the rest of us that it's too easy think think they'll be ok just because you've not met one who wasn't. Hugs to you. RIP Jewel

Oh so very sorry Cara. Gordo used to be in a field with a lovely big oak tree and I was complacent about it thinking that the chance of him eating acorns outweighed the lovely shade. Fortunately for me we were lucky.

So sorry to hear about your loss. Blue had a tree in his field one year and I lost count of the hours I spent picking them up.

Awwww sweet heart ... so very very sorry. Yes, sadly acorns are a great danger, and don`t always get given the *big warnings* they deserve.
Thinking of you at this awful time .... bless her ... RIP Jewel xx
