Would I have known you?

It is still there and going strong althou not an actual riding school as such now but Margie does have a select few older kids that she tutors i do believe as she brings them to the National Trust shows over on the Pony Club field opposite. Saw her just a couple of wks ago with her troup....

I’ve just read Porlock Vale, Riding School 1946-1961 which is all about the home of British Equestrianism in Somerset. It got me thinking back to when I trained for my Horsemasters so I started doing a bit of googling to see if Ashridge equestrian centre was still going and this thread came up! I was so pleased to see others talking about it. I was there in 1977 and remember Margie Craibe teaching us although I’m not sure if she was in charge then, maybe her parents were.
I was trying to remember some of the horses back then; there was Oscar a grey cobby type with a hogged main, Major a lovely schoolmaster, Basil a skewbald Cob and two ponies on loan to the school Rocky and Domi. I’m trying to remember which horse Margie rode, it might have been Topsy. I wish I could remember the other horse’s names.
It was a wonderful place to train, hard work but so worth the effort. I passed but was a little perturbed to read the report written by the examiners which said they had taken into consideration my size! I’m 5’2” so not THAT little but I guess I was a bit petite in build. I’m not sure you’d be able to say that these days!
I remember one of the students used to drive to the stables in an old Morris Minor and I was really envious as I hadn’t passed my test then.
And there was a really dishy farrier too if I recall….
Anyway…just wanted to share that.
